Synopsis: SunOS 5.10_x86: kernel patch
Date: Nov/10/2008

Install Requirements: After installing this patch on an active boot environment, the system will be in a potentially inconsistent state until a reconfigure reboot is performed. Unless otherwise specified in the Special Install Instructions below, it is normally safe to apply further patches prior to initiating the reboot due to the relatively small footprint of the patch utilities. Normal operations must not be resumed until after the reconfigure reboot is performed.
Use Single User Mode (run level S) when installing this patch on an active boot environment. An alternative may be specified in the Special Install Instructions.

Patch Installation Instructions:
--------------------------------
For Solaris 7-10 releases, refer to the man pages for instructions
on using 'patchadd' and 'patchrm' scripts provided with Solaris.
Any other special or non-generic installation instructions should be
described below as special instructions. The following example
installs a patch to a standalone machine:

       example# patchadd /var/spool/patch/104945-02

The following example removes a patch from a standalone system:

       example# patchrm 104945-02

For additional examples please see the appropriate man pages.

Special Install Instructions:
-----------------------------
Do not apply this patch with -t option since the system might fall in the problem
of Bug# 6810176.
patchadd -t 137137-09 is installing in non-DAP mode, leading to unbootable systems.

NOTE 1: Before installing this patch, please be sure to install the
latest patch utilities patches for your OS. This list of
patches is defined at - http://sunsolve.sun.com

Please use the pull down list which appears after the text:
"Latest Patch Update: To ensure the correct functioning of
the patching utilities on your system, stay up to date on
         the following patches"

NOTE 2: Installation of this patch should be preformed in single user mode.

NOTE 3: A reconfiguration boot, boot -r, must be completed after patch
         installation or patch removal.

NOTE 4: If the patch is being applied to a live system, please stop
and start SunSSH daemon by doing the following:

         # svcadm disable ssh
         # svcadm enable ssh

This way the changes to the SunSSH daemon delivered by this
patch will take effect immediately. Already established
connections will not be affected during the restart.

NOTE 5: Prior to backing out this patch 137138, please, disable
         'network/shares/group' service by running:

         svcadm disable svc:/network/shares/group:default

Failing to do so, can result in service failure which is essentially
harmless. Should you see that error after patchrm, you can resolve it
         by running:

         svccfg delete -f svc:/network/shares/group:default

NOTE 6: After applying this patch to existing Solaris 10 5/08 HVM domain,
such domain should be sys-unconfig'ed, rebooted and reconfigured.

Also, after applying the patch and before rebooting the HVM Solaris
domain, the admin needs to to ensure that the following line is in
         /etc/driver_aliases:

         xpv "pci5853,1.1"

And the following lines are in /etc/name_to_major:

         xpv 249
         xpvd 250
         xnf 251
         xdf 252

NOTE 11: Sun Cluster systems using HAStoragePlus to manage their ZFS pools
should not install this patch without also installing the
fix for bug 6769612. Else a ZFS pool may be simultaneously imported
to more than one cluster node which would result in ZFS pool corruption
and panics. For more information see Sun Alert 245626 at :-

         http://sunsolve.sun.com/search/document.do?assetkey=1-66-245626-1

NOTE 12: Due to bug 6772822, systems with an MPxIO enabled SVM encapsulated root
filesystem, should only apply this patch *AFTER* installing patch
125556-01. Else the boot block will not be written and the system will
fail to boot. For more information see Sun Alert 246206 at :-

            http://sunsolve.sun.com/search/document.do?assetkey=1-66-246206-1

NOTE 13: Due to bug 6772083, systems installed with Solaris 10 3/05 or 3/05 HW1
and with limited space in the root filesystem may become unbootable
when installing this patch. See Sun Alert 246207 for more details.

           http://sunsolve.sun.com/search/document.do?assetkey=1-66-246207-1

NOTE 14: Due to the following CR
        6793609 Installation of 137138-09 can hang as a side-effect of 6785504
patchadd of 137138-09 will hang if installed in Single User Mode to a
system running SVM mirrored root. The CR is fixed in 125556-03, so
apply 125556-03 to the system prior to installing 137138-09.
This problem only occurs on SVM mirrored root while patching the live
system, it does not occur isf applying 137138-09 to a non live Boot
environment, even if the target Boot Environment is configured with
        SVM root mirror.

NOTE 15: Due to CR 6869037, applying this patch to a system running ufs root with
logging disabledis not supported. If logging is disabled for root, then one
must first enable logging and then reboot.
Note that logging is the default option in Solaris 10, check the root entry in
/etc/vfstab, the logging option is the last entry, nologging indicates that
logging is disabled and must be enabled prior to patchadd of this patch.

NOTE 16: Before applying this patch, make sure that the latest version of
125556 is all ready applied. 125556-xx fixes a lot of known install issues in
        137137-09.

NOTE 17: If this patch is applied to the active boot environment of a system that meets
          all of the following criteria

          - the package SUNWmkcd is not installed (ie. a system installed with the
SUNWCuser or lower metacluster won't have this package)
          - /var is a separate filesystem
          - the size of /tmp is limited

then the boot archive can fail to build, causing the subsequent attempt to boot
the system after patching to fail (see CR 6850202). To avoid this issue, it is
recommended to temporarily remove the size limit imposed on /tmp in /etc/vfstab
over the duration of the patching maintenance window. If the issue is
encountered and the system fails to boot, the resolution is to boot the
failsafe and rebuild the system boot archive. This issue is resolved on systems
already running a kernel at patch level 141445-09 or higher.

NOTE 18: If the target system does not already have some of the Deferred
Activation Patches (DAP) Kernel PatchIDs applied, please refer
to the Release Notes of the corresponding Update release on:
