Synopsis: Obsoleted by: 147440-27 SunOS 5.10: Solaris kernel patch
Date: Nov/20/2012

Install Requirements: After installing this patch on an active boot environment, the system will be in a potentially inconsistent state until a reboot is performed. Unless
otherwise specified in the Special Install Instructions below, it is normally safe to apply further patches prior to initiating the reboot due to the relatively small footprint of the patch utilities. Normal operations must not be resumed until after the reboot is performed.
Use Single User Mode (run level S) when installing this patch on an active boot environment. An alternative may be specified in the Special Install Instructions.

Patch Installation Instructions:
--------------------------------

Please refer to the man pages for instructions on using 'patchadd'
and 'patchrm' commands provided with Solaris.

The following example installs a patch to a standalone machine:

       example# patchadd /var/spool/patch/123456-07

The following example removes a patch from a standalone system:

       example# patchrm 123456-07

For additional examples please see the appropriate man pages. Any
other special or non-generic installation instructions should be
described below as special instructions.

Special Install Instructions:
-----------------------------

NOTE 1: Following installation of Solaris kernel patch 147440-02 (or greater)
on sun4v systems, a panic will occur with "xt_sync:timeout" after the
system is rebooted, if the firmware is not at revision 6.4.6 or later.

Please ensure firmware on sun4v hardware is version 6.4.6 or higher
(but also see NOTE 7 below).

The following examples illustrate how to check the firmware version:

         Example ALOM:

         sc> showhost
         Sun System Firmware 7.1.5.b 2008/08/05 16:58

         Example ILOM:

         -> show /HOST/sysfw_version

if the show command fails, then issue the following commands:

         > cd /HOST
         /HOST

         -> ls

         /HOST
            Targets:
               bootmode
               console
               diag
               domain
               tpm

             Properties:
                ....
                sysfw_version = Sun System Firmware 7.3.0.build_35 2010/09/09 06:07

If firmware is not at the required level then the system will fail
to boot due to CR 7098393 (xt_sync timeout on sun4v following
installation of patch 147440-02 or later).

NOTE 2: Fix to 7097870 (spill block can be dropped in some situations during
incremental receive) introduces backward incompatibility with zfs
send/recv. I.e., ZFS streams created with this patch will not be
receivable with older ZFS versions and it will fail with below error
         message in destination host:

"cannot receive: stream has unsupported feature, feature flags = 24"

This change is to allow important fix in ZFS to avoid metadata
corruptions related to ACL. An upgrade to same or greater version
of ZFS is required in destination for ZFS streams to work properly.

NOTE 3: To work around delayed processing of inbound network traffic described
by CR 6964945 (inbound IPMP echo replies are delayed in the soft_rings
layer of the network stack), add the following lines to /etc/system
         and reboot:

         set dls:soft_ring_allow_bind = 0
         set dls:soft_ring_worker_pri = 99

If this does not resolve the issue fully, add the following line:

         set ip:ip_squeue_bind = 0

If this still does not resolve the issue, then either CR 6964945 is
not the cause, or the system is too busy for the workload.

NOTE 4: If applying this patch to a miniroot please follow steps at:

http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/systems/articles/patchmini-jsp-137348.html

For SPARC see section for patching later than 10/08.
For x86 see section for 1/06 or later.

NOTE 5: The fix for 6997864 introduced a new system tunable, pr_segp_disable,
which has to be set in /etc/system to disable page lock cache
flushing. When locked ISM pages are in the page retire queue,
the page retire thread flushes the segp cache which is a bottleneck
for high memory machines. Add the following line to /etc/system
         and reboot:

         set pr_segp_disable = 0

Customers with latency sensitive database or large shared memory
applications can apply the above setting to completely skip the
         calls to seg_p_disable()->seg_p_enable() in page_retire_thread().
Default behavior is that cache flushing happens once every 30
seconds and if locked pages are observed in queue, then timeout
exponentially backs off until 1 hour in multiples of 2.

NOTE 6: After adding 147440-19 (or greater) and rebooting, it is no longer
possible to resize either dump or swap devices. This is expected
behavior due to 7165734. In order to resize dump or swap devices,
it is now necessary to remove the existing device. For example,
in the following the existing dump device is rootpool/dump and we
want to resize it to 20g:

         zfs create -V 8g rootpool/newdump
         dumpadm -d /dev/zvol/dsk/rootpool/newdump
         zfs set volsize=20G rootpool/dump
         dumpadm -d /dev/zvol/dsk/rootpool/dump
         zfs destroy rootpool/newdump

For swap, either add a new swap device or use swap -d to remove
the existing swap device. Then resize the swap volume and add the
         existing one back.

This behavior will be fixed in a later kernel patch.

NOTE 7: Following installation of Solaris kernel patch 147440-25 (or greater)
or 147147-26 on sun4v systems, the system may hang at boot.

Systems running Sun System Firmware revision 7.0 through 7.1.6 must
update to 7.1.7 or later revision.

Systems running Sun System Firmware revision 6.6.7 or earlier must
update to 6.7.0 or later revision.

It is advisable to always update systems to the latest firmware.

To determine the firmware version, use one of the following methods:

         A) Log into the Service Processor and run:
            -> show /HOST sysfw_version

           /HOST
            Properties:
               sysfw_version = Sun System Firmware 7.4.4.f 2012/09/07 16:28

         B) From Solaris:
           # prtdiag -v | grep Firmware
           Sun System Firmware 7.4.4.f 2012/09/07 16:28

For more information check MOS document 1501499.1

NOTE 8: If applying 147440-23 through 147440-27 to systems that are
patched to 147440-22 or lower, then before patching please ensure
the devinfo module is loaded and if not loaded then load it; i.e.

The following shows that the devinfo module is loaded and it is
safe to apply 147440-23 through 147440-27:

         root@milly:~# modinfo |grep devinfo
         186 fffffffff8032000 6488 88 1 devinfo (DEVINFO Driver)
         root@milly:~#

         but if the output shows:

         root@milly:~# modinfo |grep devinfo
         root@milly:~#

then the devinfo module is not loaded and the system will hit bug
16879182 (147440-23 delivers a devinfo that cannot be modloaded).
To work around this issue run the following before applying the
         kernel patch.

         # modload /kernel/drv/sparcv9/devinfo
         # echo "moddebug/W20000" | /usr/bin/mdb -kw /dev/ksyms /dev/mem

the above will load devinfo and further prevent module unloading
from occurring. it is now safe to apply 147440-23 through 147440-27.

NOTE 9: When using SCTP with unreliable networks, a system panic in
sctp_rotate_faddr() may occur. To fix, please also install
         the following patch:

         150400-10 (or greater) kernel patch
